Music Makers 5-9 years

The Music Service's new Music Makers group is designed for children aged 5-9. This session will provide an opportunity for children to try a variety of instruments and take their first steps into group music making. This class is perfect for children who have never picked up and instrument before or are fledglings on an instrument. There is no requirement to be able to read music or even own an instrument to join this class.

Alongside exploring the various instruments of the orchestra, your children will learn the fundamentals of performing, reading music, playing in an ensemble, following a conductor and even composing their own music. If your child is interested in learning an instrument, but doesn't know which one, has no experience or just wants to explore the joys of making music after school - this class is for them.

5 - 9 years old is the perfect age for a child to start learning an instrument, as their motor skills and cognitive retrieval strength are developed enough to undertake and practise new skills. This class acts as the perfect foundation for your child picking up an instrument, learning about music making and supports your child's music education external to their school curriculum. While children will get the opportunity to try a range of orchestral instruments, please note that this class does not teach your child how to play, for example, the clarinet or guitar specifically. Rather it facilitates your child learning the principles of making music, all of which underpin and fortify learning an actual instrument.
